Switch to the Darkside - Back in the day, Apple did a lot of advertising along the lines of "I used to use PCs, but they didn't make any sense and were very confusing, but now that I use a Mac, its great!" and "It's plug-n-play, not plug-n-get-mad." I hated these commercials, but I think this Star Wars version is wonderful. Check it out!
Decline of Video Gaming - This is a premise that I'm afraid I agree with all too much, even though these cartoons made from the idea aren't fantastic. Nevertheless, they contain some good bits of humor I couldn't resist and have to include. Just the same, I agree that the quality of video games is declining nowadays.
All Your Base are Belong To Us - No, that's not me typing poorly. That's the name of the website, which is based on a very old video game called Zero Wing which was very poorly translated. You can see the introduction to the game here, which gives you an idea of what is happening. Do that before watching the music video that made the video game more famous than anything else done since.
One Ring to Rule them All - This is a Lord of the Rings spoof that you won't get unless you've seen the movies (yeah, right. Like who hasn't by now?). The creator makes some excellent jokes, and some rather uninteresting ones. Don't bother watching the newest cartoon, though, it wasn't any good at all.
Time Fight - My entire life I have enjoyed the thought of Time Travel. This is a cartoon that plays with time travel by tying it to the standard, over-violent stick battles. It helps if you watch a couple of times to understand exactly what is going on.
All About Random Battles - If you haven't played Final Fantasy (or any RPG), then you probably won't find the humor in this. It's essentially an instructional video to teach about random battles and how to deal with them. It is absolutely hilareous, everyone!
Final Fantasy A+ - This follows an RPG style, even though it is called "Final Fantasy," so any RPG fans can enjoy it, and probably even some of you who aren't. It takes the RPG lifestyle and applies it to schoolwork. An old roommate of mine tells me the japanese used leads him to believe this was done as a school project, and not by actual Japanese kids, by the way.
Mega Man - Titanium Rhapsody - The Queen song "Bohemian Rhapsody" is one of their most popular. This is nothing more than a music video using various Mega Man game sprites. It's quite well done, and pretty funny as well. You don't need to be a Mega Man game fan to enjoy it, of course, since it is just a music video.
Over the Rainbow stick battle - This is a stick-battle and music video rolled into one. This, unlike most, is not overly violent either, and the song "Over the Rainbow" is performed by Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies (I think), so its quite fun, all in all.
8-Bit Theatre Dungeons and Dragons - Dr. Demento, a radio personae, played various things on the radio for the geek/nerd audience. The soundtrack used for this comes from a joke about the types of people that play games like "Dungeons and Dragons," which (while popular) were rumored to be satanic. It's funny how true it is. This video uses sprites and characters from the online comic 8-Bit Theatre which has also been turned into several flashplayer movies that are rather well done too.
Potter Puppet Pals - I think it is correct to say that I should be ashamed that I'm putting this on my site. After all, most Harry Potter parodies I've seen and heard (except for one done by HolleywoodVideo, but it doesn't exist anymore) were terrible, but this one had me laughing pretty good for some reason. Perhaps it is best viewed when it is late. It's Harry Potter puppet style, more or less.
Final Fantasy Chocobo Song - This is another one for all you Final Fantasy fans out there. It is one of the Chocobo Songs with words put to it about how awesome Final Fantasy games are. One of the best parts about it, without question, is the cast of the music video. Every relevant character from the Final Fantasy games is included. Can you name them all? It was very well done!
Legend of Zelda - Princes of the Universe - This is a music video based on the Queen song "Princes of the Universe" using game sprites from the Legend of Zelda games, primarily the 4 swords, it seems. It's rather well put together too, even if you're not a huge Legend of Zelda fan and haven't played the games.
Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom - This was a rather well-made series using Mario Brothers sprites. Action, character development, plot twists, adventure, and fighting sequences, this is a mario series I couldn't neglect to put on my site.
Final Fighting Fantasy - This one is for general Final Fantasy fans, as it is an unfinished (and it likely won't ever be, those darn lazy people) series about the world in which every Final Fantasy character (up through FF7, I think) co-exists. For no reason, it seems, they are at odds and many are killing eachother. It's still not a terrible story, but my favorite episode is Gaiden in which most of the ninja characters (Shadow, Locke, Yuffie, etc.) duke it out. Ninjas are so cool. :)
FF Battle - This is something of a Final Fantasy vs Dragonball Z cartoon. Anyone who has experience with both shouldn't have any problem seeing the humor in this. It's funny because it's true on so many different levels.
Mega Man vs Quick Man - This was a rather clever adaptation of the Megaman games to a sprite comic. While the animation isn't anything to get too excited about, I thought the thing was well done overall. Not exactly accurate to how the game is played, but creative just the same.
The Matrix has you - This is for all you Matrix fans out there. Several different flashcomic movie-writers got together to create this compliation of Matrix jokes. They each pertain to different parts of the Matrix series (all 3), so if you haven't seen any of them, you may not get the jokes made involving that particular movie. Most of these are pretty good, too. Several months after this was released, another group got together and put together something of a sequel: The Matrix Still Has You, which was also pretty good and worth watching.
Megaman Daft Punk Music Video - Megaman and other sprites get down to some funky beats! You don't have to be a Mega Man fan to enjoy them either. It's just some cool music and stuff moving to it. Enjoy!
Super Mario Reloaded - The famous Neo vs Agent Smiths scene in Matrix Reloaded was done completely with game sprites: Mario vs Luigis. They used the sound straight from the movie, so the action had to match exactly to be in sync, and amazingly enough - it does! That's some hard work right there.
Suzukisan - I suppose it would be rather difficult to explain why I have a japanese song on my site, since I don't really speak a lick of the language. The funny thing is, the person who made this into a flash video probably doesn't either. They took words in English that the Japanese words sound like, and then made images to match those English words. Sound crazy? You have no idea how much until you see! Doing this, the author has been able to work in Frieza, Raichu, Ray Romano, Utina, Monica Lewinski, Coke, and other random things. There are many subtlties that I'm sure not even I get, its so random!
Weapon Of Choice - Christopher Walkin in one of the best music videos ever made. He's been in a variety of movies, none of which gave him a terribly memorable role, so aside from those films, this is what he is most famous for. Fat Boy Slim's music video for "Weapon of Choice."
N'Chink - This link has other videos on it, which I recommend be ignored, but because I can't keep them all straight, its easier to do it like this. Several Asian college students got together and made their own music videos to the tune of various Backstreet Boys songs. These are terribly hard to find, as their site has recently gone down, but I have found them for you because I'm just that kind of guy!
DBZ - Is that Okay? - This is a Dragonball parody that uses sound clips from episodes to make it seem the characters are having a real conversation. It's been done quite well, and the animation isn't toofar of feither. Oh, Tien fans shouldn't watch this. Especially if you want him to live...
Star Wars Kid (SWK) - Once upon a time, 15 year-old boy named Ghyslain was goofing off in school in Quebec in November of 2002. A gold ball retriever acting as his light saber recorded himself dueling as only a jedi master could, complete with his own sound effects. Why would you want to watch something so ridiculous? Because since that movie found its way into cyberspace, there have been over 100 parodies created, my favorites including these (please watch the original first, just so you can appreciate this all the more): 2nd Remix, Matrix Agents, there are many more, but lots of them aren't worth watching. Sorry!
Clay Movement - I'm not a fan of most of the claymation I've seen on the internet. This is probably because almost anyone can grab clay and take pictures of it dozens of times and call it a movie, no matter how poor a job they do. Well, I gave this one a shot and was quite impressed witht he humor, as well as their talent for manipulating clay in such a way as to make the motion seem good. Not perfect, but still good. The person who made it also made Become, which is also neat claymation to watch.
Narnia Rap - I have been largely disappointed with the Saturday Night Live of today, being mostly about sex and whatnot, but every rare once in a while there emerges something worthwhile. This is a rap based on two guys going to see the Chronicles of Narnia movie, and you don't even have to like the movie to enjoy this. Heck, I haven't even seen it yet and I think it's great. Check it, foo!
The Halo Matrix - You really have to admire how much time and effort people will dedicate to silly little projects for entertaining other people (I have a website). This is the first couple of scenes of the movie "The Matrix" done with the video game Halo. To clarify, several guys played multiplayer and acted the movie out in sync with the audio from the movie. The result is what could ALMOST be the movie done in video game format. Quite impressive, and silly.
Haloid - This is a rather impressive bit of animation starring Master Chief of Halo fame and Samus from Metriod. It is patterned after the Matrix fighting style (in fact, that's where most of the music hails from), and while it moves a little too fast to fully enjoy, there is still quite a lot to appreciate. If you're not into the Matrix type fighting style, don't bother with this. Oh, and I strongly recommend you turn the thing off after everything goes black. It's not for any content reason, but more because the thing makes Master Chief out to be a girl, then she and Samus are friends and they look at a sunset and rest and stuff...really something of a letdown. Let it end at the black.
YuGiOh Abridged - I believe this is the first attempt at abridging a tv show to make it both funny and entertaining. It is definately the only successful attempt I've ever seen, and I have seen quite a few. While it inspires me to try my own, you absolutely have to enjoy the quality work this guy (yes, one person) does in what I will always consider to be a mastery of parody. If you tried to follow the original show (and when I say "original" I do not mean the Japanese version before it came to America. It's dark. I mean pre-abridgement) then you might enjoy this all the more. Frankly, someof the episodes have brought me to tears, especially with their obscure references. Others are just plain entertaining.
